Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mrs. Archie Louise Epps Whitfield, who passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Northport, AL, at her home residence.

Archie Louise Epps Whitfield was born February 4, 1935 to the late Collins Epps and the late Olener Brown Epps she was the first born Grand Daughter to the late Hosea Brown and Evie Hyche Brown and step grandmother Datie Mae Brown she was joining in holy matrimony to the late William Whitfield, September 19, 1954 to this union three loving children were born and 57 years of marriage she is proceeded in depth by her late husband of over 57 years Mr. William Whitfield. She’s also proceeded in death by her daughter, Kathy J Whitfield. And also by her parents Collins and Olener Epps. She was born in the of home of the late Pete and Mimi Brown, who are the parents to the late Dr. Reverend James Brown they were cousins but you couldn’t tell them that they wasn’t brother and sister. Mama Julie may Wells, who was the prominent midwife in the area in Northport delivered a healthy baby girl feet first on February 4, 1935 at that time Little did she know she was delivering the future wife to one of her grandsons the Late William Whitfield. Her Christian life began at a very early age. She has been a member of the Zion Grove missionary Baptist Church, since the beginning of the foundation of the church her father was one of the founding members. deacon Collin Epps. Archie also was a member of the Mount Galilee missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jesse Miller. She later moved her membership back to her home. Church Zion Grove missionary Baptist Church, where she stayed a faithful member doing her sickness and to her death. She was educated in the Tuscaloosa County school district where she graduated. She then attended A&M university major in home economics for a brief time Archie was a flawless dress and suit maker. Her sewing abilities can match any runway. She made the first set of uniforms for the James Brown community choir her along with the late Ola may Whitfield she also was a mother of three of the original members of the James Brown community choir a great supporter with her children doing the 60s and 70s when the world was changing so much with music our history and our rights. she was a James Brown choir biggest supporter and cheerleader of the youth of that time She worked in the retail business in fashion. She was one of the few African-American women that was managers of department stores at that time downtown Tuscaloosa that was a store by the name of mangles department store was a women clothing store you can often find Mrs Whitfield in the showcase window dressing mannequin her fashion style of putting outfits together was outstanding when leaving the retail business she started to do domestic work, where she started working for the late Jack and Elizabeth, Warner of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she care for their day-to-day needs in their home she was loyal employee for many many years, but she could not retire. She continue doing domestic work for different private homes up until three months before her death yes that’s right. She continued to go to work drive a car up until the month of September 2025. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, William Jerome Whitfield (Gwen Whitfield) her daughter, Priscilla F Crandle(Jessie will Battle) a loving special,daughter Bonita Prewitt Rainey, her grandchildren Bershondar Crandol of Tuscaloosa, Alabama Shakira Crandol McMillan (DR. Alicia Crandol McMillan), of Maryland, Adria Whitfield, Birmingham, Alabama, Courtney Nicole Prewitt Birmingham, Alabama Rosie Rainey, (kia Rainey) Birmingham, Alabama, officer Ryan Prewitt, Birmingham, Alabama, Ramon Rainey(Bianca Rainey) Belleville, Illinois A devoted special great granddaughter, Brandi Crandol an great grandchildren great great grandchildren brother-in-law, John Edward Whitfield(Fernanda) sister-in-law Ruth Johnson Aunt Margaret Cannon, a loving uncle Roy Brown, a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the New Enoch Missionary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 12:00 P.m.
