Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Reverend J.P. Dixon, who passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Rev. J.P. Dixon was born in Reform, Alabama, on July 11, 1942 to the late Wille Mae and John Elbert Dixon. He departed his life on Friday, October 24th, 2025, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was united in marriage to Mozelle Hudgins on October 26th, 1968 and to this union 4 children were born.
He was a 1963 graduate from Hopewell High School. He worked at Westinghouse Electric Company, in Reform, Alabama and United Technologist in Columbus, Mississippi. He retired from the Pickens County Board of Education. He was a member of the Pickens County Retired Teachers Association. He was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge Caution #220 and the Emaline Gilmore Eastern Star Chapter #523. He earned certification.
Rev. Dixon dedicated his life to Christ at an early age, joining Unity Grove C.M.E. Church. He was called to the ministry in 1967, where he served, fulfilled, and completed all of his assignments and obligations. He served as the Shepard of Vernon Chapel C.M.E. (Vernon, Alabama), St. James C.M.E. (Fayette, Alabama) Acks Chapel C.M.E. (Gordo, Alabama), Popular Spring C.M.E. (Reform, Alabama), Jefferson Chapel C.M.E. (Moundville, Alabama), Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. (Knoxville, Alabama) and Mt. Carmel C.M.E. (Ralph, Alabama). After retiring in 2016, he returned back home to the Unity Grove C.M.E. Church, where he served faithfully until his death.
He was preceded in death by his son, Baby Dixon; parents, Willie Mae and John Elbert Dixon; and brothers, Johnny B. Dixon, Rufus Lee Dixon, Grady T. Dixon, Bennie R. Dixon, and Donald G. Dixon.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Mozelle Dixon; one son, Russell Dixon (Ruby); two daughters, Lisa (Maurice) Dixon-Woody and Victoria (Damaine) Dixon-Smith; one bonus son; Tim Simpson. Six grandchildren, Anthony (Leandra)Dixon, Maurice (Amberis) Woody, Mya (Victor) Ellis, Malayiah Dixon-McGee, Katelynn Renee Woody, and Damaine Smith, Jr.; one bonus grandson, Jacoby Gator; three sisters, Laura Mae Alexander, Stella (Gerald) Bonner, and Eardeal Hill; three sisters-in-law; Martha “Diane” Dixon, Siesta Wells (Kenny), and Gene Dixon; one brother-in-law, Archie Lee (Barbara)Hudgins; one aunt, Mary Storey; one bonus brother, Alexander (Jennifer) McDougle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, whom he truly loved.
A visitation for Rev. Dixon will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 2-5pm at our Reform location, 505 1st Ave West, Reform, AL 35481.
The funeral service will take place Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11:00am, at Poplar Springs CME Church, 107 Poplar Springs Road, Reform AL 35481. Rev. Dixon will lie in state for one hour prior. Burial to follow at McCrary Cemetery, 669 Unity Grove Road, Reform, AL.
