Mr. Curren McKinzey

Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mr. Curren McKinzey.

Mr. Curren Melville McKinzey, age 86, passed away on May 31, 2022, at Hospice of
West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ruth B.
McKinzey; his stepson, Robert L. Vess III (Lesa); his step-granddaughters, Sarah
Kate Vess and Leah Hernandez; his son, Barry G. McKinzey; his grandson, Vincent
W. McKinzey; a daughter; and his brother, David E. McKinzey. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Alma Lucille Clark McKinzey and Grady McDuffee
McKinzey; his brothers, Roland Marvin McKinzey and Grady Eugene McKinzey; his
sister, Juanita Lee McKinzey; and his first wife, Gwenn.
Curren was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 11, 1935. He lived in Georgia and
Tennessee before moving to Alabama in 1971. He served in the Army during the
Korean Conflict and later worked numerous jobs, including owning an awning
business. After receiving his BSW in Social Work from the University of Alabama,
he last worked as a social worker at Indian Rivers Mental Health Center in
Tuscaloosa. Earlier, he was active in the Boy Scouts as an assistant troop leader,
was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, and had an avid interest in
genealogy and his Scottish heritage.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 1:30pm at St. Luke’s
Methodist Church, Tuscaloosa. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all attendees are asked to please wear a mask and attempt to maintain 6ft social distancing. Burial will follow in Georgia at a later date. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to American Cancer Society,
West Alabama Hospice, or a charity of one’s choice.
