Jimmie L (Jim) Stewart, Sergeant Major, US ARMY
Jim retired from the Army in 1979 after 25 years of service. Of those years, 20 years of his service was with the US Army's Special Forces (Green Berets). Jim served with the Army's Special Force units in many different countries, including Combat Tours in Vietnam, Laos, and the Dominican Republic. His last assignment was as the SGM of the US Army ROTC Detachment at The University of Alabama, 1975-1979. After retiring from the Army, Jim was employed by the Tuscaloosa City Schools where he taught JROTC at Central High School until his retirement in 1997.
After his retirement, Jim continued to be active in community affairs. He was a founding member of the Carroll's Creek Volunteer Fire Dept, serving as both a Volunteer Fireman and a member of the board of directors for 35 years. Jim was also a member and past commander of Tuscaloosa's Post 34 of the American Legion. He was also a "LIFE" member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Disabled Veterans Association, Specials Forces Association, and the Special Operations Association.
Mr. Jimmie Stewart is preceded in death by his sonAndy Stewart.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Carrie L. Stewart of Northport, Al and his son Robin L. Stewart of Northport, Al.
Upon private services, Mr. Stewart internment will be in Alabama National Cemetery, in Montevallo, Al.
