Age 70
The Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Mrs. Gloria Cockrell, who passed away on September 5, 2026, in Aliceville, Alabama.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2026, at 10 am at Northport Funeral and Cremation Service, 505 1st Ave. W. Reform, AL 35481. Mrs. Cockrell will lie in state one hour prior to her service, and her burial will follow at Straw Bridge Cemetery, Ethelsville, Alabama.
Gloria Jean Pate Cockrell was born on November 11, 1955, in Steens, Mississippi, to the late Roy J. Pate and Bernice Wells Pate. Bernice moved her family to the Liberty community of Ethelsville, Alabama, following the death of her husband. Gloria joined Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend C.C. Conner. She received her diploma from Pickens County High School in Reform, Alabama. She has lived in the Macedonia community of Ethelsville since 1996. Gloria worked in the textile manufacturing industry, most recently at Millport Slacks in Millport, Alabama. After that, she was a full-time homemaker. In addition to Ethelsville, Gloria also lived in the Linda subarea of Marysville, California, for several years. She enjoyed quilting, fill-in puzzles, making handkerchiefs for her sister, and watching television with her daughter. Gloria’s favorite hobby was shopping. She loved finding a bargain. She was known to say, “I saw this and thought of you. If you can’t use it, pass it on!” It made her happy to see her family smile after receiving one of her gifts. In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her sister, Bettie Pate Henry-Wilson, and her brothers, Willie Aaron Pate and Gay J. Pate. Also preceding her were her maternal grandparents Alfred Wells, Sr. and Mattie Brown Wells, along with paternal grandparents Adam Pate and Vivian Gardner Pate. Gloria passed away on September 5, 2026, as a resident of Aliceville Manor Nursing Home. In her memory, Gloria leaves her husband of over 44 years, Charles E. Cockrell; daughter Turkessa Cockrell; brother Roy E. Pate; sisters-in-law Mildred Guyton Pate and Glenda Cockrell Pate; brothers-in-law Mack Cockrell (Danita), Terry Cockrell (Glenda), and Glenn Cockrell (Melissa), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The compassionate, sympathetic, and professional Northport Funeral & Cremation Service team has been entrusted with Mrs. Cockrell's arrangements.
