The Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Ms.Linda Crowder, who passed away on May 2, 2026.

Mrs Linda Joyce Crowder passed away on May 2, 2026. Linda is preceded in death by her wife of 37 years, Edwina Elaine Miller, father Roy Raymond Crowder, and son Chad Brandon Spencer.

Linda is survived by her mother, Wynona Madison Crowder, sisters Cynthia Crowder Lucy (Ben), Christie Crowder Suarez (Ebene), son Roy Beverly Spencer, granddaughters Maggie Spencer Acker (Lee), Sarah Gayle Spencer and Mattie Kendell Spencer; daughter-in-law Kandy B. Spencer, nephews Nathan Lucy, Benjamin Lucy, Joseph Suarez, nieces Anna Lucy Harvey and Emma Claire Suarez, many treasured cousins, and her beloved Great Pyrenees, Gibbs and Ziva.

Linda was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on May 25th, 1951, to parents Roy Raymond Crowder and Wynona Madison Crowder. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1969 and pursued collegiate studies in nursing, social work, and mechanical engineering. She found her calling as a residential and light commercial mechanical contractor and worked with her father in the HVAC industry for over forty years. She began training for this at eight years old, when her father paid her a quarter per blueprint that she traced for him. Over the years, Linda diligently expanded her skill set and knowledge base via industry accreditations and training. She became a “go-to” resource for homebuilders and homeowners and established many meaningful relationships through her work. She was an active member of the Homebuilders Association of Tuscaloosa and worked tirelessly on the Association’s Parade of Homes events.

Linda’s passion was helping those less fortunate than herself. She worked charitably and politically on state, county, and local levels to help others overcome economic and social injustice. Among the many organizations she supported, Linda was very proud of being involved in the early years of the Alabama Spouse Abuse Network. Through her work with the Network, Linda joined the national movement against domestic violence, helped establish shelters, and championed protective legislation. Since 2018, Linda has served on the board of the People's Loan Program, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving low-income residents of West Alabama by providing microloans. She was a member of the group The Sisters, which raises funds to support local charities. Linda willingly, quietly supported anyone who reached out to her, whatever their need.

She also lived life large and full of love. A dedicated piano student in her youth, Linda cultivated a lifelong appreciation of music that she shared eagerly with others. As an adult, in a melding of her mechanical intellect and her adventurous spirit, she pursued and obtained her pilot’s license, enjoying flying for many years. She enjoyed shooting pool, which her son Chad took to a competitive level. She delighted in nature: sunrises, full moons, and booming thunderstorms—especially in the wooded surroundings of her home. She went on nature walks with her granddaughters when they were little, and later, she continued to enjoy nature’s majesty vicariously through Roy’s hikes. She and Edwina both appreciated and were stewards of the wildlife on their property: always feeding the geese, ducks, deer, hummingbirds, squirrels, and rotund raccoons. She appreciated cats but held a deepest affinity for her dogs.

More than anything, though, Linda loved her family and friends. She loved her wife, sons, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In 2000, that love expanded exponentially when her first grandchild was born. Linda often told friends, “Grandchildren change everything; they change your life for good.” They were the lights of her life, and she actively supported their growth and development. In turn, just being themselves, they are her living legacy.

If you knew Linda, you knew she was a generous, loving, supportive, forgiving, self-sacrificing, loyal, empathetic, witty, strong, and intelligent woman. She lived by the adage “faith without works is dead” and always let her actions speak louder than her words.

She touched more lives than anyone truly knows and will be greatly missed by all.
