Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mrs. Lynda Mitchell, who passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Northport, AL.

Lynda Lee Dobbs Mitchell passed away peacefully in her home February 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was 82.

Lynda was born and raised in Berry, Alabama. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama, and a master's degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. While at the University, Lynda met the love of her life Olus. They married in Tuscaloosa and chose to live and raise their family in the area. Lynda spent much of her distinguished nursing career at Druid City Hospital. She was a well-respected and devoted educator at both the Druid City Nursing School and the University of Alabama Nursing School, where her teaching focus was in the areas of Labor and Delivery and Maternal Child Nursing. Lynda found great joy nurturing her vegetable garden as well as her many flowers. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, boat rides, and walking on the beach. She was an excellent cook and often hosted large Sunday dinners and gatherings for family and friends. In the last few years of her life, Lynda was lovingly cared for by her dedicated caregivers Lex Smith, Kathy Barner, Victoria Aiken and others from the Seniors Preferred Homecare of Tuscaloosa.

Cherishing Lynda’s memory is her husband of 58 years William Olus Mitchell, Jr. and her three children: Mary Beth Schaaf (Stephen), Abbie Powell (Ted, deceased) and Michael Mitchell (Elizabeth). She was also the adored "MeMother" to five grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Trey Powell (Carly), Hannah Baker (James), Marleigh Claire Drake (Jameson), Lillie Mitchell, and Mitchell Schaaf. Carrying her memory in their hearts is also Lynda’s brother Rodney Dobbs (Vickie) and Nephew Lee Dobbs, as well as her sister-in-law Sandra Goins (Jimmy), Neice Casey Hill (Colby) and their children Tyler Hill (Mia) and Savanah Hill. Lynda is preceded in death by two nephews Chis Dobbs and Lane Dobbs.

A small private family memorial will be held at a later date.
