Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mrs. Mattie Mae Sherrod.

Mattie Mae Sherrod was born September 25, 1945 unto Walter Collie and Mattie Hill. She transitioned from this life on Friday, March 4, 2022 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Mattie was born and reared in Reform, AL. She attended school in the Pickens County School system and graduated in 1963. After High school, she married her sweetheart and best friend, Gene Sherrod. Together they were blessed with two sons.

Mattie was a strong believer in Christ and worshipped faithfully at Poplar Springs Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She shared her gift of music by singing in the choir.

She was employed by her Alma mater as a bus driver for over twenty-five years. She was also a manager for Dollar General. She was family-oriented and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, and shopping.

She was a beautiful spirit and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her running buddy, and loving husband of 56 years Gene, her two sons Gary Wayne Sherrod and Stanley Eugene Sherrod; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; her three sisters Diane (Robert) Moore of Columbus, MS, Barbara Collie of Moline, IL, Alma (Eric) Reed of Atlanta, GA; four brothers Anthony (Marilyn) Collie of Madison, MS, Raymond (Mary) Collie of Houston, TX, Benji (Rose) Collie of Southaven, MS and Sherman (Angela) Collie of Dallas, TX;four special friends Joann Stewart, Logan Petty, David Betts and Josephine Betts and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm at Northport Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel in Reform, AL. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at 1:00pm Popular Springs CME Church in Reform, AL. Burial will follow at Popular Springs CME Church Cemetery. Compassionate, sympathetic, and professional service has been entrusted to the hands and care of the Northport Funeral & Cremation Service Professional Team.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all attendees of services and visitations are required to wear a mask and attempt to maintain 6ft social distancing.
