Ms. June Fountain

October 3, 1942 — January 31, 2023

Ms. June Fountain

Ms. Carolyn June Fountain, age 80, of Vance went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2023. She was part of the 1960 graduating class at Brookwood High School where lifelong friendships were forged. Over the course of their lives, the classmates have continued to bond through life’s events and shared lunch dates frequently. After earning a BS degree in Education from the University of Alabama, she began her professional career as a fourth-grade teacher at Brookwood Elementary School. Over the years, she transitioned from careers away from the farm to focusing solely on her cattle operation. She took great joy in involving her grandchildren and most recently, great-grandchildren, in cattle production activities.

There is no denying that one of Ms. June’s favorite places in life was on the back of a horse. Some of her closest friends became family through trail riding adventures shared; even those that included getting a little lost. As such, they were coined the “Lost Riders.” She found great joy in worshiping through music including homecoming services, old-fashioned singing schools, and simply gathering a few friends and family around the piano.

Ms. June served her community through her musical gifts at her home church. She also invested her time as a member of the Bibb County Cattleman’s Association and served as an active board member of the Farm Service Agency (Tuscaloosa) and the Vance Volunteer Fire Department.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Jean Boyd Martin (Mike); grandchildren, Jessica Martin Graves (Kenneth), Robert Martin (Laura); great-grandchildren Bryar Reed Graves, Brynlee Rose Graves, Michael Lynn Martin, and Addison Mae Martin. To these, she was known as “Meme” but to others, including her cousins, she was recognized and will be remembered as one of the most hard-working and dedicated individuals in her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vincent Rudolph Fountain and Nancy Rozelle Johnson Fountain and brother, Howell Edward Fountain.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Johntown Baptist Church in West Blocton, Alabama. The celebration of life service will be at 12:00 noon and immediately followed with internment at Johntown Cemetery.
